CALIBRE Systems Inc, an employee-owned Management Consulting and Information Technology Services company, is looking for a General Maintenance Worker. The successful candidate will join and coordinate a team to support range operations and maintenance. The successful candidate will work directly with the CALIBRE Range Support Manager. This task will be conducted at Fort Knox, KY.

The candidate will:

Be part of a team to provide products and services consisting of maintenance and operation of live-fire ranges, maintenance and operation of non-live fire facilities, logistical and communications expertise, and fabrication of non-standard targetry in support of USASOC training within the 101,000 acre Fort Knox training complex. Conduct enforcement of specific range facility clearing procedures for the approximately 61 live-fire ranges (varies from 58 – 61), 18 training areas, 1 drop zone and various non-live fire training facilities. This support routinely is required for extended periods of time up to 16 hours per day and occasionally requires 24 hour support.

Tasks include:

  • Operate forklifts or other specialty vehicles/equipment as certified
  • Monitor and inspect range-training activities of military units using the range and training area complex
  • Provide assistance to military units conducting military maneuvers/training exercises within the Fort Knox Training Complex
  • Carry out and monitor all aspects of range resource management, utilization and protection practices
  • Provide information and answer questions concerning assigned AOR, range safety, security, operational procedures, sanitation, and fire prevention procedures.
  • Explain fire, safety, sanitation, operational procedures, capabilities and limitations of range training facilities; how training apparatus operates, safe tactical procedures, etc and other regulatory and administrative procedures to unit personnel.
  • Monitor the use of range resources and inspect training areas. record all damage to range facilities, equipment and resources report conditions of unauthorized, hazardous or illegal use of range training areas to Range Operations
  • Provide capabilities to operate and maintain urban training sites, live fire range facilities, and maneuver training space
  • Assemble minor vertical simulated targets using brick, mortar and timber in support of training requirements
  • Walk and maintain pace with tactical units over uneven and varied terrain, wearing appropriate safety gear Improved Body Armor (IBA, Eye protection, sturdy footgear) at a minimum
  • Maintain range facilities using gasoline or diesel powered tractors (GFE) to cut or mow grass.
  • Move materials, draw farm implements, tow trailers, and fasten attachments, such as graders, plows, and bat wing rotary mowers.
  • Conduct erosion control, trail improvement, debris removal, and vegetation control.
  • Operate other implements to ensure range facilities are maintained to include lawn mowers, weed eaters and chainsaws.
  • Maintain equipment at the operator level which includes conducting before, during, and after operations checks for serviceability, applying lubrication IAW manufacturer equipment manuals, and ensuring equipment is turned in to higher-level maintenance for scheduled services.
  • The work environment may include one or all of the following:
    • Travel in Government and passenger vehicles and trucks, as a driver or passenger.
    • Travel in military wheeled vehicles.
    • Travel in military and private aircraft, fixed wing or rotary.
    • Travel in vehicles on unpaved roads and off-road.
    • Travel on public transportation.
    • Field work in rough and remote terrain; in weather extremes such as thunderstorms, high heat and humidity, severe cold and wind.
    • Field work in the proximity of unexploded ordinance.
    • Field work in the proximity of military training exercises.
    • Exposure to stinging and biting insects, ticks, spiders, venomous snakes, poisonous plants, spines, and thorns.
    • Control and suppression of prescribed burns and wild land fires.
    • Use of power equipment such as chain saws, weed cutters, wood chippers, trucks, road graders, bulldozers, loaders, excavators, etc.
    • Loading, securing, transporting and unloading heavy equipment.
    • Use of hand tools such as axes, rakes, shovels, brush cutters, machetes, saws, etc.
    • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and pesticides

Job Requirements

  • Candidates must pass background checks to meet installation access requirements.
  • Possess and maintain a current and valid state driver’s license
  • Have demonstrated operator-level experience with Range Targetry and systems.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills in a team-based development environment.
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Rudimentary carpentry skills
  • Have a complete understanding of range facility operations and safety aspects associated with live-fire activities
  • Experience with the installation, relocation, set-up, and servicing of targetry and other devices to include the operation, repair, and maintenance of target arrays, sound systems, video systems, performance feedback data capturing systems, standard and non-standard battle effects simulations, pyrotechnics, and other command and control systems associated with instrumented facilities
  • Experience operating and user-level maintenance of tractors (JD 6200 equivalent), batwing mowers and similar and associated equipment
Required Experience
  • Experience with the installation, relocation, set-up, and servicing of targetry and other devices to include the operation, repair, and maintenance of target arrays, sound systems, video systems, performance feedback data capturing systems, standard and non-standard battle effects simulations, pyrotechnics, and other command and control systems associated with instrumented facilities.
  • Experience operating and user-level maintenance of tractors (JD 6200 equivalent), batwing mowers and similar and associated equipment.
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to work both individually and in team groups all consistent with the organizational goals.
  • Candidate should have a High School Diploma with at least (1 to 2) years relevant experience.
