Job Description

CALIBRE Systems, Inc., an employee-owned Management Consulting and Digital Transformation company, is seeking a Proposal Writer.

In this role the candidate will assist in the development of proposal content. The candidate will review and edit content developed by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for compliance to Request for Proposal (RFP) requirements and bring consistency to proposal content across all volumes, including past performance, resumes, management, and technical. The candidate will identify reusable content as a starting point for sections of the proposal. Responsibilities include conducting interviews with technical and management SMEs, program leaders, and key personnel; reviewing products or services; creating writing strategies; and working with graphic designers to further develop proposal content. The candidate will lead revisions, such as changing words and rearranging sentences and paragraphs to improve clarity, and create content when applicable. The candidate will review proposal content for errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling and check the proposal for readability, style, and agreement with editorial policy. The ideal candidate will provide proofreading skills, possess a keen attention to detail, and handle stressful situations well. The candidate will also demonstrate dependability and exceptional customer service skills.

Required Skills
  • Support Proposal and Capture Managers in delivering compliant and compelling proposals
  • Use research skills to identify reusable content
  • Write persuasively and articulately
  • Write and edit proposal for readability, consistency, and appropriate tone
  • Analyze proposal content for relevancy of past performance to RFP requirements
  • Review, analyze, and interpret RFP/RFQ/RFIs to determine writing requirements and organization of content
  • Receive and administratively track new editing/writing assignments using SharePoint
  • Serve as lead editor and one voice/consistency writer
  • Communicate with SMEs to solicit information to improve written proposal
  • Edit proposal narratives, correcting grammar, passive voice, and consistency to support ease of readability
  • Manage time proactively to plan for unforeseen short term assignments
  • Demonstrate excellent professionalism and customer service skills
  • Research and gather relevant information from SMEs for use in proposal writing to address customer hot buttons, features and benefits of proposed solution, and incorporate win themes into proposal sections
  • Write and edit proposal and marketing content for grammar, punctuation, readability, and persuasiveness
  • Edit multiple proposals in the same timeframe
  • Create a positive work environment, demonstrate a professional attitude, and meet established goals and responsibilities while working in cooperation with colleagues

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years proven successful experience editing, writing, and coordinating Federal Government proposals of moderate to high complexity 
  • Experience in managing multiple editing/writing assignments
  • Experience working with proposal teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment supporting critical business development activities
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and managerial skills
  • The ability to use standard English writing styles and structures to write proposal sections; this includes the ability to research and synthesize information from multiple sources (SMEs, previous proposals) into a cohesive, easy-to-read, and persuasive final product
  • Able to balance multiple projects and work to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work with teams and individuals of varying working styles
  • Ability to work overtime often with limited advance notice
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint
