Job Description

  1. Licensed as Certified Industrial Hygienist, Registered Professional Industrial Hygienist, or Certified Safety Professional with five (5) years of heavy construction experience and five (5) years of hazardous substance, uranium mine or mill site restoration or cleanup work under CERCLA, NRC or DOE These time periods may be overlapping or separate. Three (3) years of the required experience must be in a capacity of site or program safety officer with responsibility for preparing ensuring proper implementation of site specific health and safety plans or responsible for directly overseeing the work and responsibilities of site safety officers;

  1. Knowledge of OSHA health and safety regulations regarding hazardous waste sites, HAZWOPER, and general construction site operations. Knowledge of OSHA and NRC health and safety regulations regarding radioactive materials. Ability to prepare site- specific health and safety plans (HASP) in accordance with EPA and OSHA regulations, policies, and procedures;

  1. Capable of training site safety officers and ensuring any person performing that function is trained and familiar with regulations and requirements;

  1. Ability to independently assess the need, and provide recommendations for amendments to the HASP, as site conditions change or new hazards are identified during a response;

  1. Knowledge of resources available which provide chemical specific facts to supplement industrial hygiene data. Knowledge of radiological exposure limits, personnel monitoring for radiological exposures, testing for radiological contamination on personnel and equipment, decontamination methods for personnel and equipment and air monitoring for radionuclides. Ability to evaluate exposure limits of hazardous substances against site survey results. Ability to develop and institute site specific engineering and work practice controls as well as proper personal protective equipment selection to protect workers against exposure to hazardous substances;

  1. OSHA 40-hour EM 385-1-1 training (citation to be included in resume); and

  1. 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and 8-hour radiation safety training and be up to date on HAZWOPER 8-hour annual

refreshers (citation to be included in resume).
