Job Description

CALIBRE, an employee-owned Management Consulting and Information Technology Solutions Company, is looking for a Database Technical Integrator is responsible for the design, installation, optimization, and administration of enterprise terrain databases in support of TRADOC TCM-ITS and US Army Centers of Excellence (CoE), Schools, and education Institutions. The Database Technical integrator coordinates all aspects of terrain database administration services, develops conceptual frameworks, and applies state-of-the-art technology to the management and administration of enterprise data assets. The Database Technical Integrator performs functional analyses to understand customers’ terrain needs and functional requirements. The Database Technical Integrator develops proposals, specifications, and recommendations for efficient, cost-effective terrain database management and technology solutions to meet the customer’s requirements.

  • Conducts terrain database configuration management in response to requirements generated by any users, federated changes, and doctrinal changes.
  • Builds, changes, edits, manages, and coordinates the simulation/federation parametric and unit database to ensure the simulation/federation performs correctly.
  • Evaluates terrain databases for changes that significantly alter previous simulation results during integration events.
  • Performs database troubleshooting and tuning to resolve complex systems, data management, communication, and interoperating problems.
  • Implements and maintains one or more complex databases.
  • Conducts database architecture reviews and participates in code reviews with development teams providing insight for leveraging database capabilities.
  • Implements procedures to control access and allocation of data and maintains security controls; maintains database definitions and documentation.
  • Monitors and optimizes system performance using index tuning, disk optimization, and other methods.
  • Implements, configures, and troubleshoots database instances, replication, backup, partitions, storage, and access; sets user privileges within the database environment.
  • Applies knowledge of advanced database design to optimize database performance and guides team in implementation of best practices in database maintenance and administration.
  • Monitors and analyzes existing database infrastructure, proposes design changes, and implements improvements.
  • Monitors database performance, capacity, availability, and security and forecasts growth requirements and makes appropriate adjustments to accommodate capacity requirements.
  • Participates in process to refine and implement database design standards across organization's computing platforms, including naming conventions, performance metrics, patch management, backups, and tools.

Job Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Possesses and maintains an active SECRET clearance.


  • Four (4) years relevant work experience with MySQL, MS SQL, and Oracle databases on Windows platforms.; experience with database design, administration, maintenance, and security.
  • Four (4) years’ experience with terrain databases in a low overhead and gaming training environment.
  • Experience with terrain database interaction with training and information systems such as the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), Maneuver Network (MANNET), ALOTT/DXTRS, and VBS3.
  • Experience providing advice on terrain and simulation use to support ALOTT capability development.
  • Experience with low overhead capability development, Verification, Validation and Accreditation (VVA), and user support.
  • Knowledge of GIS software packages such as ArcGIS, Global Mapper, and QGIS etc. Arch GIS and Global Mapper have almost become standard for M+S Terrain.
  • Knowledge and experience manipulating geospatial products to conform to common Modeling and Simulation (M+S) standards.
  • Knowledge and experience with geospatial data, Digital Terrain, and elevation Data (DTED) to include terrain formats, projections, datums, scale, data sources, and data schemes such as FACC and EDCS.
  • Knowledge of the NGA (National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency) and its products and how they specifically relate to military use.
  • Knowledge of relational database theory, design rules, and development practices, including data modeling, data flow, entity relationship analysis, data structure analysis, logical and physical database design, data access methods, storage capacity management, and database recovery techniques.
  • Knowledge of database management systems and software, including architectures, diagnostic tools, commands, and utilities.
  • Knowledge of the processes and procedures related to supporting large scale simulation federations, National Simulation Center events, and Mission Training Complex operations.
  • Experience in military doctrine, training management, and capability development.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical and non-technical information and instructional briefings and other training to team members and government personnel.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Management, or related technical discipline. Four (4) years of constructive, low overhead, and gaming terrain experience will be considered In lieu of a Bachelor degree.
  • Possesses DoD 8570 IAT II certification: CompTIA Security+ or higher Information Assurance certification.
  • Must have Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator certification or equivalent in database implementation and maintenance.
